Liujiaxia Gorge to Bingling Si

The boat we took from Liujiaxia Gorge to the Bingling Si grottoes.

View from the Bingling Si dock.

Bingling Si Grottoes - Contain Buddhist sculptures and art carved into caves in a canyon next to the Yellow River.

View as we're entering into the canyon.

The caves containing the Buddhist sculptures and paintings. A lot of them do not allow you to take pictures and only a certain number of them were open to the public.

The few sculptures that we were able to take pictures of. This place is similar to the grottoes in Dunhuang, but not as impressive.

All the paintings and color have faded away.

A lot of the Buddhist art was destroyed by Muslims passing through, per the guide.

The 27-meter high statue of the Maitreya Buddha was being renovated.

Waterwheel Garden

The Yellow River runs through Lanzhou. There use to be 252 waterwheels along the river in Lanzhou to irrigate the fields.

Sheepskin rafts you can ride across the Yellow River.

Iron Bridge

Considered the first bridge to be built across the Yellow River. It was built in 1907.
