East Coast/Canada - Day 5 (Sunday, August 21, 2016: Boston to Portland)

Spent the day exploring Boston, Massachusetts. 

Boston: Faneuil Hall Marketplace, Modern Pastry for a small breakfast, Freedom trail (Paul Revere House, Old North Church, Copp's Hill Burying Ground, USS Constitution, Bunker Hill Monument), Regina Pizzeria for lunch, and Boston Public Market.

Drove from Boston, Massachusetts, to Portland, Maine.
Drive: Approximately 112 miles, 1 hour 50 minutes.

Portland: Walked around the Eastern Promenade, dinner at Street and Co. Stayed the night at Ramada Plaza Portland.

After enjoying cannoli, we did a self-walking tour on the Freedom Trail. The Freedom Trail is a 2.5 mile long path through Boston that takes you pass 16 historically significant sites. Boston, Massachusetts.

Along the way, they were setting up for some kind of fair, and we stopped by to try some Cherrystone clams. Boston, Massachusetts.

Old North Church. The Old North Church is a part of the American Revolution in which the lantern was hung to signify whether the British were coming by land or by sea, "one if by land, two if by sea," as written in Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's poem The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere. USS Constitution. She was launched in Boston in 1797 and is the world's oldest commissioned naval vessel afloat. She was named by President George Washington. You are allowed to board her for free, but you must pass through security with a proper photo ID. Boston, Massachusetts.

 Bunker Hill Monument. The Battle of Bunker Hill was fought on June 17, 1775 and was one of the first major battles the British and Patriot forces in the American Revolutionary War. Boston, Massachusetts.

 After walking the Freedom Trail, we stopped by the original Regina Pizzaria, at the North End, for lunch before making the drive to Portland, Maine. There's always a line here, but it moves quickly. Boston, Massachusetts.

I had made reservations for dinner at Street and Co. at 7:45 p.m. We had some extra time when we arrived in Portland and so we took a stroll around the Eastern Promenade and enjoyed the views and colder weather. Eastern Promenade, Portland, Maine.

The main course: Lobster Diavalo. This is meant for 2 people and includes a whole lobster, mussels, clams, and calamari, with noodles on the bottom soaking up the delicious sauce. Street and Co., Portland, Maine.
