After the sunrise on Cadillac Mountain, I drove and parked at Sand Beach and did the Beehive trail. It's a 0.8 mile hike in which you go up the exposed rock cliff using iron rungs on the ledges. This is the view while going up Beehive trail. Acadia National Park, Maine.

View of the Beehive trail later as we were walking along the Ocean Path trail. You can see the people on the cliff ledges. This picture gives a better idea of what the Beehive trail is like. Acadia National Park, Maine.

Sand Beach. Near the Beehive trailhead is Sand Beach and this is the start of the Ocean Path trail, a 4.4 mile round trip hike on fairly even ground, which takes you along the coastline all the way to Thunder Hole and Otter Cliff Overlook. Acadia National Park, Maine.

The forestry along the Ocean Path trail. There are areas of shade and no shade along the trail. Acadia National Park, Maine.

Thunder Hole, a natural rock inlet. When the conditions are right, a thunderous boom can be heard when the waves crash along the rocks. Supposedly, the best time is midway between low and high tide during periods of high swells. Ocean Path trail, Acadia National Park, Maine.

Bass Harbor Head Light. Built in 1858, it marks the entrance to Bass Harbor on the Southwestern side of Mount Desert Island. Acadia National Park, Maine.

To end the day, we had an early dinner at Thurston's Lobster Pound, a seasonal family-run restaurant serving locally caught Maine lobster and seafood. Great place, highly recommended. Come early to find parking and the line gets long. You can sit inside or outside with great views of the harbor. Thurston's Lobster Pound, Bernard, Maine.

You can pick between soft-shell or hard-shell lobster. The meat of the soft-shell lobster is sweeter and more tender. The hard-shell lobster has a stronger lobster flavor and is chewier. You buy the lobster based on size and pay per the pound. Thurston's Lobster Pound, Bernard, Maine.

Our spread. We ended up order both soft-shell and hard-shell lobster, lobster roll, corn on the cob, steamed clams, crab salad, and a whoopie pie. Thurston's Lobster Pound, Bernard, Maine.
